Grand Re-Naming Open House Memorial Day Weekend, May 24th and 25thOn May 24, 2008, Stillhouse Vineyards will officially change its name to Philip Carter Winery of Virginia during a Grand Re-Naming Open House celebration. The event will feature new premium Virginia wines by the glass, live music, and excellent comestibles in a magnificent setting among the rolling hills of the northern Piedmont. There will be pony rides for the children, and the masters of ceremony on Saturday will be none other than Thomas Jefferson and Charles Carter (re-enactors). The day will also include the first annual Philip Carter Winery Fencing Classic, a fundraiser to benefit the Richmond Fencing Club. Charles Carter was an avid fencer and Philip Carter Strother is a Virginia rated competitive fencer. Visitors to Philip Carter Winery are invited to view an authentic replica of the 1762 gold medal presented to Mr. Carter by the Royal Society, read his correspondence with the Royal Society on display in the Cleve Hall tasting room, and enjoy premium wines that are produced in honor of Charles Carter’s dream for Virginia begun roughly 250 years ago. |
